    Overview

The Meadowbank Children’s Centre is a vibrant, welcoming space that is rich in history. Our commitment to the holistic development of children has created an environment where children and families thrive. Our educators have decades of experience between them and bring their colourful talents and passion to the centre every day. We have an exceptionally low staff turnover, which creates a stable and nurturing space for children.

Our educators bring diverse backgrounds and expertise, enriching the learning experience for children. Our director and many educators are fluent in various languages, such as Chinese, Korean, Mandarin and Vietnamese. This promotes an inclusive and culturally rich environment.

    About us

The Meadowbank Children’s Centre offers a unique blend of attributes that make the environment special.

    Learning beyond the classroom

At Meadowbank we are so proud of our beautiful veggie patch with thriving vegetable vines. It provides inner-city children with the opportunity to engage in gardening and learn about sustainability. There is a sense of achievement when they can also take home produce. Outside, we also have our yarning circle which provides a dedicated space for storytelling and Cultural sharing.

We have a community library and a free herbs station at the centre. This little hub encourages reading at home and sharing books and recipes, which promotes friendship building.

Progressive and nutritional focus on mealtimes

We emphasise fresh, homemade meals with a no processed foods policy. We also use a progressive snack time approach, allowing children to snack intuitively. This introduces some autonomy and teaches children to tap into their hunger cues.

Educators take pride in seeing children develop healthier eating habits and watching them expand their palates with new and nutritious foods.

    Our history

With large shady trees and a rich history dating back to 1998, there is no denying the soulfulness the Centre offers.

Originally established as a children’s centre for Aboriginal women, it allowed them to pursue education by providing a safe space for their young children. This legacy of support and female empowerment continues to inspire our approach today.

    A typical day

Each day at our centre is filled with meaningful experiences that nurture creativity, independence and wellbeing. Situated next to a train station, we’re a seamless drop-off point for busy city workers on their morning commutes.

    What you can expect:

    • Our entrance through the play area ensures daily interactions that strengthen relationships between parents, children and educators.
    • Weekly cooking activities with families invited to share recipes that reflect their cultural backgrounds.
    • Development of healthier eating habits.
    • Children’s packed lunches are warmed and served on plates to replicate family-style meal-sharing and encourage conversation.

    Getting started

We strive to make enrolment seamless and we love showcasing everything that makes Meadowbank Centre unique. Guided tours are offered at the centre from 9:30-11am and 3pm onwards, but we can adjust our schedules to accommodate busy families.

We can also help you through the application process in our dedicated space. This is particularly helpful for families who speak English as a second language.

If you are interested in joining us, we can send you an enrolment form to begin the application process or arrange a time to meet.

You’re welcome to call 02 7921 6944 to ask about availability or submit an enquiry below.

If there are no vacancies, you can complete an Application for Care Form and we can add you to the waiting list.

    Documents needed

To submit your application, you will need to provide:

    • Birth certificate
    • Medicare card
    • Health care/Pension card (if you have one)
    • Immunisation record (must be through Medicare, blue books are not accepted).

Please note: Children must meet government immunisation requirements or have an approved exemption to be eligible for Child Care Subsidy (CCS).

    How to enrol

There are five steps to complete enrolment:

    1. Apply for CCS (if eligible) – Parents/guardians submit a claim to Centrelink.
    2. Agree on care arrangements  – To be confirmed between the Early Childhood Director (ECD) and parents/guardians.
    3. Submit enrolment – The ECD submits an enrolment notice to Centrelink via HubHello.
    4. Confirm enrolment – The parents/guardians verify the enrolment with Centrelink.
    5. Secure enrolment – If you accept an offer, we’ll send a formal letter detailing the next steps. This includes submitting a birth certificate, proof of immunisation and a security deposit to secure your childcare placement.

Once the enrolment is completed and approved your entitlements can be calculated, and payments made. If there are no vacancies, we can add you to the waiting list.

Under Family Assistance Law, all children attending an early learning centre must have an enrolment notice, regardless of CCS eligibility. For eligible families, Centrelink/Services Australia can only process CCS claims once the correct enrolment is in place.
