    TAFE NSW Bankstown Children’s Centre

Teacher and young children playing games at a table

    Overview

Our Bankstown Children’s Centre provides a nurturing environment where children develop confidence and a strong sense of belonging. We take a play-based approach to learning, encouraging children to explore, make choices and develop their skills.

We’ve built the idea of sustainability into our program with activities like gardening, recycling and nature-based play to help children care for the environment. We also teach them to take responsibility for their belongings and engage in everyday tasks that build independence. Through social interactions and guided experiences, children gain skills in problem-solving, teamwork and self-care.

The centre provides care for children aged 6 weeks to 5 years. There are two dedicated rooms: one for infants and toddlers (6 weeks - 3 years) and another for preschoolers (3 - 5 years), although this can be dependent on the individual child and their development.

    About us

Our centre features gardens where children can grow herbs and vegetables, giving them experience in planting, nurturing and harvesting. We also have a variety of easy-to-care-for succulents, allowing children to engage with nature in a simple and rewarding way.

By exploring their interests and making decisions in a supportive setting, children develop critical thinking skills and a sense of responsibility. This prepares them for a smooth transition to school and beyond.

At our centre, we are deeply committed to diversity, inclusion and equality. We foster a welcoming environment where every child feels valued and supported.

    Our educators

Our team includes educators with up to 30 years of experience in early childhood education and care, who bring a diverse range of skills and expertise to their work.

We embrace multilingualism, with staff members who are fluent in Arabic, Vietnamese and Bengali, ensuring we can connect with and support families from diverse cultural backgrounds.

When it’s time for a child to transition to school, we understand that some may feel unsure about the change. To support this milestone, our centre can arrange for an educator to accompany the child, based on their individual needs. This additional support helps bridge the emotional and social gap between early learning and school, making the transition as comfortable and positive as possible.

    A typical day

Each day at our centre we balance structured learning with child-led experiences. This helps the children explore and grow at their own pace and within their social group.

    Morning activity

Our mornings involve indoor and outdoor play, with children choosing activities that:

    • encourage physical skills, active movement and social interactions
    • encourage creativity, sensory exploration and imaginative play.

    Learning and play

Our learning programs combine structured activities in language, literacy, maths and science with child-led play that fosters attention, social skills and independence.

Children build critical thinking skills by exploring their interests, actively making choices and solving problems. These experiences nurture confidence and prepare them for lifelong learning.

    Mealtimes and rest

Families are responsible for packing their child’s lunch and snacks. Children enjoy mealtimes together to encourage social and communication skill development. Rest time is flexible, based on the child’s needs and family preferences.

    What our parents say

“My son has attended Bankstown Children’s Centre for the last three years, and I can’t express how happy I am to have chosen this centre for him. It was important for us to find care that would cherish and nurture his independence and uniqueness, and they have certainly done that. They provided care that was guided by his interests, and challenged him, ensuring he was ready for school.”

    Parent of a preschooler

“Both of my kids attended Bankstown Children's Centre, and from the very start, it became a safe and nurturing place for them. The professionalism, kindness and expertise of the educators are exceptional, but what truly stood out was their deep understanding of each child. As a parent, I was grateful for the valuable insights they shared about my children's specific needs, which helped immensely with their emotional regulation, education and overall development—even outside the centre.”

    Getting started

We warmly invite all families to visit our centre, explore our spaces and get a feel for our environment. If you choose to enrol, we provide personalised orientation sessions for each child and their family to ensure a smooth transition and to get to know our team.

To begin the enrolment process, you can contact the centre on 02 7921 6829, or submit an Application for Care Form to join our waiting list. We will notify you as soon as a place becomes available.

    Documents needed

To submit your application, you will need to provide:

    • Birth certificate
    • Medicare card
    • Health care/Pension card (if you have one)
    • Immunisation record (must be through Medicare, blue books are not accepted).

Please note: Children must meet government immunisation requirements or have an approved exemption to be eligible for Child Care Subsidy (CCS)

    How to enrol

There are five steps to complete enrolment:

    1. Apply for Child Care Subsidy (if eligible) – To be confirmed between the Early Childhood Director (ECD) and parents/guardians.
    2. Agree on care arrangements – The Early Childhood Director (ECD) and parent/guardian confirm the child’s care details.
    3. Submit enrolment – The ECD submits an enrolment notice to Centrelink via HubHello.
    4. Confirm enrolment – The parents/guardians verify the enrolment with Centrelink.
    5. Secure enrolment –  If you accept an offer, we’ll send a formal letter detailing the next steps. This includes submitting a birth certificate, proof of immunisation and a security deposit to secure your childcare placement.

Once the enrolment is completed and approved your entitlements can be calculated, and payments made. If there are no vacancies, we can add you to the waiting list.

Under Family Assistance Law, all children attending an early learning centre must have an enrolment notice, regardless of CCS eligibility. For eligible families, Centrelink/Services Australia can only process CCS claims once the correct enrolment is in place.
