    Grow your career using regenerative farming techniques. Spend your days managing crops from crop to harvest. Learn compost making, grow organic produce and use your industry-relevant skills and techniques to gain the best yield from your crops.

    Learning outcomes

    Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

    • Establish produce crops and manage them with orchard pruning and floor management

    • Gain practical experience growing your own garden from crop to harvest including weed, pest and disease control

    • Follow work health and safety (WHS) standards within a horticulture and floriculture environment

    • Setup the irrigation systems for organic gardens, to produce good quality produce

    • Take soil samples, read and interpret results to manage your soil and enhance your crops performance

    • Identify biosecurity threats and hone in control of your zones local pests, such as fire ants

    Course outcomes

    Entry recommendations

    To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

    • Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team

    • A reasonable level of fitness to manage the physical demands of the role such as seeding, preparing soil and operating machinery

    • The ability to provide your own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for every class including enclosed boots, sunhat, sunscreen and insect repellent

    • Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) at a Year 10 high school level

    • TAFE NSW may ask you to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills test. This skills test helps us to understand your individual study needs, to design an individualised plan that supports your study success and ensures your LLN skills match the demands of the course.

    Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Production Horticulture qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 15 units of competency, including 3 core and 12 speciality units.
