    Gain the knowledge and practical skills to apply first aid to casualties and perform CPR. You’ll graduate with the confidence to treat anaphylaxis, burns, cuts, cardiac arrest and other emergencies. Whether it's at work or in your community, you'll be ready help others and potentially save a life.

    Learning outcomes

    Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

    • Recognise and respond to emergency situations

    • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation

    • Apply first aid principles for a variety of situations, including burns, cuts, allergies or choking

    • Use an automated external defibrillator (AED)

    Entry recommendations

    To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

    • Physical ability to kneel on the floor to perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles) on an adult manikin placed on the floor

    Licensing

    Depending on which industry you are employed in, you may need to renew your qualifications regularly. Safework NSW notes that refresher training in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) should be carried out each year and first aid qualifications should be renewed every three years. Please check your local licensing bodies and with your employer for relevant up-to-date information.
