Exposure to highly realistic surveying work settings
Competence performing technical mathematics and Excel computations
Confidence using popular surveying tools and technology like Computer-Aided Drawing (CAD), Geographic Information System (GIS), total station theodolites and digital levels
This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol
Successful completion of the Certificate IV in Surveying, the Certificate IV in Surveying and Spatial Information Services (Surveying) as evidenced by a copy of your transcript or certificate or
Significant, relevant work experience where your tasks and capabilities reflect the maths and Excel units of competency in the above Certificate IV qualifications, as evidenced by a letter from your employer or resume
During your study you’ll need to provide your teacher with the following evidence:
A Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment. This skills test helps us to understand your individual study needs and to provide you with the appropriate support for your study success.

Advanced numeracy skills
An excellent knowledge of industry software
The ability to provide your own personal protective equipment (PPE) consisting of covered shoes, a long-sleeve fluoro shirt, a wide-brimmed sunhat and long pants

Further study and other requirements are necessary following the Diploma of Surveying if you wish to become qualified as a registered surveyor in NSW. Visit the Board of Surveying and Spatial Information for more information on gaining surveying registration. A white card (or general construction induction card) is required for any worker who needs to access a construction site. Local regulations should also be checked for requirements. Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Diploma of Surveying qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 16 Units of competency, including 8 core and 8 speciality units.
