At TAFE NSW, through our Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP), we are committed to creating a learning and work environment that values and promotes:
dignity
trust
respect
diversity and inclusion.
As part of this plan we have a specialised team of Disability Teacher Consultants who support students in their learning. Connect with a Disability Teacher Consultant through our Disability Support Services by calling 131 601.
At TAFE NSW our teachers and staff work together to help learners navigate their studies. Our specialised Disability Teacher Consultants assist learners living with disability.
They do this by:
identifying the supports needed
implementing individual learning plans, and
making reasonable adjustments.
Our aim is to enable full participation, maximise learning opportunities, and build confidence for all of our students.
For more information call us on 131 601 and ask to speak to a Disability Teacher Consultant at your campus.
The TAFE NSW Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) aims to ensure a safe respectful, and fair place of learning and work. Our goal is to:
create an inclusive environment
empower everyone to reach their full potential
remove barriers to learning and employment
promote equal opportunities for all
create an inclusive and user-friendly experience, and
ensure our learning platforms and online presence use universal design principles.
Our DIAP is based on four focus areas that were developed by the NSW Department of Communities and Justice Services:
developing positive community attitudes and behaviours
creating liveable communities
supporting access to meaningful employment, and
improving access to mainstream services through better systems and processes.
The Physical Access Advisory Group and Technology Access Advisory Group were formed by TAFE NSW. These groups aim to collaborate, build awareness and develop inclusive strategies with government and industry stakeholders.
These advisory groups have created guidelines for reasonable adjustments to help ensure everyone working and studying with us has equal opportunities.
To date, these groups have:
ensured people living with disability are fairly represented in the marketing and branding of TAFE NSW
delivered staff training in accessibility and universal design principles, and
provided funding for TAFE NSW to deliver accessibility courses for Vision Australia.
TAFE NSW is currently developing the next Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP). This DIAP will further our commitment to embrace diversity and foster inclusion at TAFE NSW.
