Andrew Saunders has returned to his role at TAFE NSW as Leader of Business Relationships and Pathway Design in the Aboriginal Learning Circle after filming channel Nine’s renovation program, The Block.

Andrew and his wife Deb were hard-working contestants on The Block and despite some long renovating hours, Andrew’s passion and commitment to supporting current TAFE NSW students and those considering study, was never far from his mind.

Andrew’s role at TAFE NSW sees him providing support and creating pathways to employment for Aboriginal people who are studying at TAFE NSW or who would like to.

“My time on The Block was a lot of fun and we put in many hours but I also managed to make a few calls to my TAFE colleagues and making sure the programs I support were rolling along. It’s not because I had to, it’s because it’s my passion; it’s important to me to facilitate these pathways available to students,” said Andrew.

“I am Australian Aboriginal from Biripi country in beautiful Taree and I feel very strongly about supporting local communities and individuals to achieve their goals.

“These may be goals that people didn’t even know were available to them. That is the great thing about TAFE NSW; we design courses specifically for local communities to give people the real world skills for the job they want. I’m just proud to be part of the team who makes these opportunities available”.
