On Friday, September 20, TAFE NSW Grenfell will throw open its doors to approximately 30 Henry Lawson senior High School students for an important day of workshops that will help prepare them for life after high school.

A number of prominent local business representatives will cover off a range of important topics with the students, including resume writing, how to be financially savvy, how taxation and superannuation works and much more.

The event is sponsored by the National Australia Bank and Weddin Shire Council, and will also give the students the opportunity to tour our state-of-the-art Connected Learning Centre (CLC), and learn more about the exciting Vocational Education and Training options available to them.

High school is a very important period for the students as they begin to plan for their futures. Certainly worth considering is some of the statistics that were revealed in the Grattan Institute report - Risks and rewards: when is vocational education a good alternative to higher education? – that was released earlier this year.

The report highlights that a Vocational Education and Training graduate is more likely to be earning more, earlier in their career, than an equivalent university graduate, and the VET sector offers courses that typically lead to higher incomes than low-ATAR university graduates are likely to earn.

It’s something all students, parents and carers should learn more about when assessing their future career plans.
