With employment opportunities in the aged care industry expected to grow strongly over the next five yearsi, a Boggabilla resident is getting on the front foot by upskilling at TAFE NSW. 

After experiencing the shortages of work as a farmhand during the drought, Samantha Coleman decided to change careers and study a Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) by connected delivery at TAFE NSW Boggabilla. 

“I’ve always enjoyed spending time with the elderly and learning about their history. It felt like the right time to start studying something I was passionate about,” Ms Coleman said. 

“Studying by connected delivery meant that I could attend my closest TAFE NSW campus and connect with my teacher and peers at TAFE NSW Moree. 

“I’ve been able to put my hands-on skills into practice by completing work placements close to my home, and I’m looking forward to working in the industry once I complete my studies. This style of learning really suited me as I didn’t have to travel too far to have access to quality education, and the teachers were just a call or email away if I needed them.” 

TAFE NSW Head Teacher of Health and Nursing, Amanda Morris said Sam has been a wonderful student who is very passionate about working in the aged care industry. 

“Aged care workers continue to be in demand across NSW and Sam is the perfect example of students coming to TAFE NSW no matter where they are located, to get the skills and experience they need to be in a career they’ll love.”
