Edmonson Park local and self-proclaimed animal lover, Renee Diedrich has secured a job at Macarthur Vet Group while studying a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing at TAFE NSW.
With employment growth for Veterinary Nurses expected to increase by 13 per cent by 2024[1], Renee has chosen the perfect time to pursue a career caring for all creatures great and small.
“My love for animals started in my home country of Germany as my parents were dog breeders,” Renee said.
“I have learnt so many skills at TAFE NSW and the course gave me the confidence to approach each situation in the clinic on my work placement.
“After my work placement I was offered a role at Macarthur Vet Group, it’s been great getting more hands-on experience with all the animals at the clinic.”
Renee is encouraging others who are interested in a career in the Veterinary Services industry to get their foot in the door.
“If you are thinking about becoming a vet nurse, now is the perfect time to enter the industry. I’ve noticed a rise in demand for our services from COVID-19 and lockdowns inspiring more people to adopt pets.”
TAFE NSW Head Teacher of Animal Science, Wayne Boyde, said whether you’re looking to start your career or broaden your skills to get the job you want, TAFE NSW offers a variety of courses that equip students with the job-ready skills to be able to work in a variety of animal care fields.
“TAFE NSW students gain knowledge while experiencing what it is like to work as a vet nurse in veterinary clinics, boarding kennels, marine biology and RSPCA care, and as a park ranger, pet groomer, and zoo and park attendant.”
The Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing is a fully government-subsidised JobTrainer course. Eligibility criteria apply. This nationally recognised qualification equips people with the skills to work as a veterinary nurse, assisting veterinarians to care for animals in the workplace.
