With the Australian beauty and personal care products market forecasted to reach $6.7billion US by 2024i , there is no better time for budding makeup artists and therapists to consider a beautiful career making others look and feel good.
TAFE NSW Dubbo graduate, Shani Van Zyl, is in a career she loves after studying a Certificate II in Retail Makeup and a Certificate III in Beauty Services. Not only is Shani working as a retail and beauty supervisor for Priceline Pharmacy in Dubbo, she is running popular makeup masterclasses for customers at her workplace.
“I like showcasing my makeup looks on my Instagram page @shanimonique_mua and often have people asking me how to do certain looks, I suggested doing classes at Priceline and they have been really popular with our customers,” Ms Van Zyl said.
“A lot of the techniques I teach during the classes come from the hands-on skills I learnt at TAFE NSW.
“I teach people about the importance of skincare, a number of eye makeup looks as well as how to perfect brows and achieve a flawless base.
“I learnt so much from the teachers at TAFE NSW and I really enjoy passing on my skills to others.
TAFE NSW Head Teacher of Hair and Beauty Services, Robyn Mawbey, said the beauty industry continues to progress particularly with the rise of beauty vloggers.
“Social media influences sharing YouTube tutorials and posting videos about their favourite lipstick on Instagram continues to change the way consumers discover new products and engage with brands.
“We’ve noticed an increase in the number of students wanting to learn skills in makeup application to keep up with the latest trends for special occasions as well as everyday makeup looks.”
