Amid a construction boom across regional NSW, Dubbo builder, Jack Bush is making the most of NSW Government subsidies to grow his business with a TAFE NSW trained apprentice. 

After completing a Certificate III in Carpentry and a Certificate IV in Building and Construction at TAFE NSW Dubbo, Jack started his own building business, Aisling Constructions focussing on new homes and undertaking renovations in the Orana region. 

“Since the age of three, I had the dream of becoming a builder. TAFE NSW helped me pursue that dream,” Jack said. 

“Studying at TAFE NSW enabled me to learn hands-on skills from industry experts and get exposure to different aspects of the trade that you don’t always get onsite. It was great to learn about running a commercial business through the Certificate IV and become a licensed builder. 

Jack said he now has an apprentice who is currently studying a Certificate III in Carpentry at TAFE NSW Dubbo. 

“The recent NSW Government subsidies for businesses looking to employ an apprentice gave me the confidence to expand my business,” he said. 

“I feel very strongly about sending my apprentice to TAFE NSW for his apprenticeship training, knowing from experience, that he will learn a broad range of practical skills that will benefit the business and set him up for the rest of his career.” 

TAFE NSW Dubbo Construction Teacher Mark Penman said now was the perfect time for local trades to consider employing an apprentice. 

“Jobs for skilled workers in the construction industry are expected to continue to increase, and there are many low cost and fee-free courses available through the NSW Government JobTrainer initiative for the community to take advantage of,” he said.
