With the festive season right around the corner, restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues, are on the hunt for staff. To help job seekers get ahead of the competition this Christmas, TAFE NSW Campbelltown will deliver a Statement of Attainment in Bar Operations this November.

The two-week course will equip students with the job-ready skills they need to confidently operate a bar, and with the hospitality sector forecast to see a 13 per cent growth in bar attendants and baristas by 2023[1] there won’t be a shortage of jobs.

TAFE NSW Hospitality Head Teacher, Amanda Good said, “The Christmas period is one of the busiest for the hospitality industry, with the number of functions, parties and celebrations, requiring venues to hire extra staff to assist with the added workload.

“Employers are crying out for qualified employees who are equipped with the job-ready skills they need to hit the ground running during peak trading times.

Forty-four year old, Karen Halse had worked in an office for twenty years when she realised she wanted to pursue a job in the hospitality industry where she could use her social skills to her advantage.

“I worked in an office for twenty years and to be honest, I was really over it and wanted a career where I could be social and engage with people daily.

“I started my hospitality career by completed a number a short courses at TAFE NSW Campbelltown which taught me the skills I needed to get my foot in the door and gain employment as a bartender at Club Menangle.

“I’ve now worked there for two years and once I finish my Diploma of Hospitality Management this December I’m hoping to secure a supervisor position in the new pub that will be opening early next year.” said Ms Halse.

This course will help job-seekers differentiate themselves from other candidates, as along with having their RSA they will learn how to prepare the bar for service, accurately and efficiently take drinks orders, prepare and service a range of alcoholic beverages, safely and hygienically clean the bar, and close down a bar securely and responsibly.

“It can also lead to further study, with the course giving students credit towards the Certificate III in Hospitality, allowing them to be qualified faster.” Ms Good said.
