TAFE NSW is seeing a surge in supply chain and eCommerce enrolments, due to industry growth, and free training through the NSW Government’s JobTrainer initiative.

Australian reliance on the supply chain and eCommerce industry has snowballed in recent years, with an average 37 parcels received per person in 20191. Growth for the supply chain and eCommerce industry throughout the pandemic has continued to outstrip forecasts.  

With skills shortages reported by 80% of employers in the industry2, and courses now available for free for those eligible, now is the perfect time to enrol, according to Simon Bolton, Head of Skills Team Supply Chain and eCommerce.

“We have courses starting soon in warehousing, logistics and supply chain, which are free for some NSW residents. We’re seeing interest from people of all ages and stages of life,” Mr Bolton said.

Interest in the industry comes as no surprise to Ben Bailey, Road Linehaul Manager for interstate freight company SCT Logistics.

“It’s a fast paced, no-nonsense industry where if you are dedicated, work hard and focus on the task, you will excel,” Ben said.

“It’s enjoyable to see the complex nature of making things work in unison with many stakeholders,” he said.

“We look for employees with good energy and positive attitude. Employees need to be ready to work hard, persist and meet obstacles each day.”  

Andrew Toth is one such SCT Logistics employee whose positive attitude and dedication, coupled with TAFE NSW studies, have earned him success in the industry.  

Andrew completed a Certificate IV in Logistics in 2020 and is now working for SCT Logistics while furthering his skills with a Diploma of Logistics at TAFE NSW Meadowbank.  

“Having TAFE NSW qualifications has helped me stand out in the industry, and what I’m learning now will help me with future career opportunities,” Andrew said.

“The supply chain and logistics industry is exciting. I wouldn’t want to work in any other industry. There are so many roles available, and there is always an opportunity to upskill or cross-train.”  

He credits his TAFE NSW teacher from Meadowbank with helping him find his feet.

“My teacher is very engaging and has very good knowledge and experience in the industry. He explains things well and even helped me out with my resume. He has inspired me to study further and generate a deeper interest in the industry,” Andrew said.
