A Sutherland Shire school leaver has credited TAFE NSW with helping him jumpstart his career in the highly competitive world of banking.
Brock Ramsey, 19, successfully secured a position as a Banking Consultant with ANZ in January this year after completing a Certificate IV in Banking Services at TAFE NSW Bankstown.
Facing the tough decision of what to do after high school, Mr Ramsey attended an information session at TAFE NSW Bankstown to see his course options.
"I honestly had no idea what I wanted to do after year 12, I went to learn more about real estate, and then one of the teachers said, why don't I show you what banking is all about," said Mr Ramsey.
"I look back at the last 12 months, and there is no way I thought I'd be where I am today; I don't think I would have been successful without my Certificate IV."
Mr. Ramsey says he was nervous about approaching the job market as a school leaver, knowing he would be competing with more experienced candidates.
"My teachers were amazing, helping me to apply for positions and working together through each stage of the application process; I would have been lost without the help they provided," said Mr Ramsey.
"The course helped me to transition to the workplace; I knew the right words and descriptions to use and had insight into the banking software programs."
TAFE NSW Head Teacher Business and Finance Alexandria Arfanis says the financial services industry is a great career pathway whether you're just starting out in your career or looking for a new one.
"It's a fast-paced and evolving industry offering a variety of job roles and career progression in areas including banking, mortgage lending, and financial planning."
"Brock is proof that the skills and training delivered at TAFE NSW are highly regarded by employers, giving our graduates a competitive edge when launching their careers."
