TAFE NSW Orange has moved to help address the shortage of skilled computer programming and Information Technology (IT) workers by introducing a new computer programming course.

TAFE NSW Acting Regional General Manager, Adam Bennett, said, “IT skills are currently in demand and expected to be for some time, with the Regional Australia Institute suggesting a major shift in the role IT plays in many Australian jobs, with an expected 50 per cent of employees by 2030 in roles requiring high-level programming, coding and software design skills.”

The Certificate IV in Programming is a nationally-recognised course that will provide students with skills in the most widely-used programming languages and allow them to develop mobile and other applications, design user interfaces and write and test coding.

“TAFE NSW is committed to providing the courses that meet industry demands and the IT industry is continually evolving,” Mr Bennett said.

“This course is not only for those already working in the IT industry looking to improve their skills, but also those interested in starting a new career.”

TAFE NSW Head Teacher of IT, Roxanne Streatfeild, said the course was an ideal pathway to work or further study.

“The course can lead to in demand roles like an application programmer, mobile applications or software developer – just to name a few,” she said.

“Students are able to get the job-ready skills they need at TAFE NSW by accessing a mixture of face-to-face and online study options, making it easier to maintain a work/life balance of studying when and where it suits them.”
