KSENIA’S NEW CAREER ADDS UP

A 33-year-old Bangor local, originally from Russia, has credited TAFE NSW with helping her join Australia’s growing accounting sector.

According to CPA Australia, demand for accounting professionals is outstripping supply in Australia, as businesses continue to grapple with uncertain economic conditions due to COVID-19.

Mother-of-two Ksenia Nasonova completed a Bachelor of Applied Commerce (Majoring in Accounting) at TAFE NSW Ultimo and is now employed as a Senior Accountant at Southern Advisory in Caringbah.

“After studying travel and tourism, I decided to switch to accounting and never looked back. I progressed from a Diploma in Accounting through to a bachelor’s degree and am thrilled to be putting my skills to use at a local firm,” Ms Nasonova said.

“I really enjoyed studying at TAFE NSW – the teachers were so supportive, and I gained crucial skills and connections which have been invaluable to my career.”

Head Teacher of Accounting and Finance Lekha Ganatra said the three-year Bachelor of Applied Commerce has been designed in consultation with industry to ensure students have the practical skills they need to hit the ground running.

“With our employer connections and industry-aligned training, students like Ksenia are well-placed to gain a job in the financial services sector upon graduation,” Mrs Ganatra said.

“Through the Bachelor of Applied Commerce, students can major in accounting, financial planning, or both – and take advantage of a variety of internships and work placements to enhance their employability and career prospects.

“Accredited by professional bodies such as CA, CPA, FPA and IPA, the degree provides students with strong theoretical knowledge across a broad range of subjects including management, marketing, law, economics, and business statistics, along with the practical experience they need to be job-ready.”
