As the festive season approaches, so too does the full social calendar of events. Two TAFE NSW Hair and Beauty experts, who oversee the education of the next generation of hair and beauty professionals, share the latest trends to help you celebrate this Christmas in style.
Approximately $22 billion is spent annually on beauty products in Australia – and the holiday period accounts for a huge upswing in social events, as people dress up in their finest to celebrate.
But with these tips from TAFE NSW Beauty Teacher Carmen Blackett and Hairdressing Teacher Kate Collins, you don’t have to spend a fortune to look your best!
Carmen has been working in the industry for over 20 years, including owning a salon - and training with some of the most respected brands in the business. She prides herself on aspiring students to achieve their dreams by becoming the best therapist they can be.
With demand for Beauty Therapists high, and the number of workers set to grow by 12.2% for the five years from 2021 to 2026, Carmen has an important role to play in training the future workers in this exciting industry.
Here is just some of the wisdom she imparts on her students – to help with your beauty routine this Christmas.
Tip #1: Less is More Allow your natural beauty to shine through this party season by enhancing your natural features with minimal makeup and put the focus on some subtle cherry lips. Go for a stained red with glossy finish for the freshest take!
Tip #2: Tis the season to sparkle For that something bit extra, add a little glitter and jewel tones to create bold, fun looks. You will need some matte eyeshadow shades to create dimension around the eye first, then layer on a sparkly or metallic pigment for the perfect finish.
Tip #3: Hydration is key
Aiming for plumped, juicy skin that looks and feels healthy? After applying your makeup look, spritz with a hydrating mist. It will not only brighten your complexion but boost your mood and refresh your skin ready for the party ahead.
And now for the ultimate hair tips! TAFE NSW Hairdressing Teacher Kate Collins has extensive industry experience – with her favourite brands to work with being Delorenzo, Kérastase and Schwarzkopf. She now enjoys her role teaching up and coming stylists – in an industry with projected growth set to be 9.6% from 2021 to 2026.
Tip #1: Invest in a great hair oil
Applying a quality oil to your hair can help with hydration and control. Argan Oil can be used on wet or dry hair, helping to give you control, shine and sleekness, particularly if you are going from ‘professional look’ work hair to a party high pony.
Tip #2 Plan ahead
Wash your hair the morning of your party, so it’s easier to manage and looking its best. Take five minutes to blow-dry your hair in the morning, so it's easy to convert to from the day to night style.
Tip #3 Accessorise!
Don't be scared to add a pop of colour with a festive red bow around your pony, a headband or a sparkly clip. Link the colour of your accessory with your makeup and or outfit to complete the look.
