FLORAL ART BLOSSOMS AS TAFE NSW STUDENTS ARRANGE PRIZE-WINNING DISPLAY

20 July 2021

Gilgandra TAFE NSW Floral Art students blossomed at the recent Gulargambone Show.

The first and second corsage placegetters were among the latest group of graduates from a short course in Floral Art, taught by TAFE NSW teacher Rosemary Colosi.

Recent overwhelming interest in the course resulted in multiple classroom sessions being scheduled to keep up with demand. The course provides students with a pathway to tap into further studies in the floristry sector.

Students travelled to Gilgandra from as far away as Coonabarabran and Dubbo to learn how to create beautiful arrangements. Students included members from two garden clubs interested in building on their passion for plants.

Teacher Rosemarie Colosi said the course offered people the opportunity to explore a new skill and to reinvent themselves.

“It was thrilling to see first-time floral students creating beautiful prize-winning arrangements. One of our students is now looking into providing arrangements as a side business to her usual full-time work,” Ms Colosi said.

Student Kim Skinner’s very first floral arrangement took out first prize at her local Gulargambone Show.

“I work in home care and when I saw this evening short course, I enrolled because it was something just for me,” she said.

“I had never done anything like this before, but now I’ve fallen in love with floral art. The teacher and the course inspired me.

“I’ve gone on to make floral arrangements for friends and have even been asked if to consider doing the arrangements for a wedding.”
