TAFE NSW has welcomed the Destination Australia Scholarships program and is encouraging those who have recently made a tree change to consider a career as an early childcare worker.

The $15,000 Commonwealth Government scholarships provide support to students to help with the costs associated with relocating, living and studying a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care at TAFE NSW Orange.

TAFE NSW Head Teacher of Early Childhood Education and Care, Susan Bird, said TAFE NSW is supporting the Commonwealth Government’s initiative because it is a fantastic way to showcase our region and equips new residents with the job-ready skills to be successful in an industry that employs the largest number of people in the Central West.i.

“TAFE NSW offering scholarships in early childhood education and care because it is an industry that is rewarding and interesting, every day is different and the Australian early childhood education industry is one of the most advanced in the world.”

Orange local, Hannah McDonald, made the switch from vet nursing to early childhood education in search of work and life balance. She is now one step closer to a rewarding future opening a family daycare centre.

“I had always been interested in working with children and was becoming overwhelmed by the hours I was working as a vet nurse,” Ms McDonald said.

“I leapt into studying a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care at TAFE NSW Orange while working as a vet nurse and I’m now working casually at Willows Early Learning Centre, while I further my skills in a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.”

Ms McDonald said being able to study when and where it suited her opened the door to be able to follow her dream of becoming an early childhood educator.

“My teachers have all been so supportive and are educators themselves, so I am learning from their vast experience and skills in the industry.

“I would encourage others who are thinking about a career change and have recently moved to the region to take advantage of the support and study opportunities available at TAFE NSW.”

Applications for the Destination Australia scholarships will close on 11 September.
