Twelve Danish students from the International Business College (IBC) Denmark have received an insight into Australian vocational education and culture, as part of a study partnership with TAFE NSW Liverpool.
The customised six-week program will see the students complete intensive courses in Australian Studies, Marketing, Economics and English, to complement their studies at the IBC Denmark.
TAFE NSW Business and Finance Head Teacher, Laura Connelly said that Australia’s largest training provider is equipping these students with skills to increase their employability when they return to Denmark.
“TAFE NSW has a long standing relationship with IBC Denmark, who have been sending their students to TAFE NSW for over 10 years.
“Not only do the students learn and practice a range of practical skills across marketing, economics and English during the program, they also get to experience the Australian culture through their home stays and Australian studies units.”
Nineteen year old, Per Klatt said, “I’m really enjoying the trip so far. Australia is so multicultural and it has been very interesting to learn about the different ways that marketers have to think when marketing to diverse groups.
“Our TAFE NSW teacher Chris was very knowledgeable and has worked as a marketing manager at Coca Cola. He was great at teaching us about different methods of marketing and provided some very interesting examples of how to market to a range of cultures.”
Nicoline Andersen, who is passionate about travel said, “It’s been really nice to visit Australia for the program. We spent a day learning about the Aboriginal culture and history, which I found very interesting.
“I can read about it at home in Denmark, but having the opportunity to hear from Aboriginal people about their culture in person was wonderful.
“We also went of excursions to Elizabeth Farm and Macarthur House, this let us experience the history of Australia first hand.”
Passionate about experiencing other cultures, Per and Nicoline both plan on spending some time after they graduate from IBC Denmark next year travelling to different countries.
“Australia is the fifth continent I’ve travelled to so far and I’d like to tick another off my list, maybe Africa - I haven’t been there yet.” said Per.
With four weeks left of their trip, the group are making the most of Australia visiting famous landmarks and trying as many cuisines as possible.
Although Nicoline has discovered a love for Tim Tams she just can’t understand why Australians love their Vegemite.
