Australia’s top real estate agent and TAFE NSW graduate Josh Tesolin shared his tips for cracking the job market with the next generation of real estate students at TAFE NSW Kingswood.

The 26-year-old has kicked serious career goals since completing a course in real estate at TAFE NSW Bankstown in 2014, and since then has been offering students valuable insights to help jumpstart their careers.

His achievements include launching his own successful real estate business, Ray White Quakers Hill, and claiming back-to-back wins as Australia's top Agent of the Year.  

Mr Tesolin said it feels like yesterday he was sitting in a classroom asking the same questions and getting ready to take the next steps to begin his career.  

"I started a uni degree, but I wanted to get straight into work. My studies at TAFE NSW helped me understand compliance in the industry and develop the skills to negotiate, which helped me get my foot in the door of my first job in real estate," said Mr Tesolin. 

"Now, six years later, I'm the youngest sole business owner in the Ray White network. I'm proof that age is no barrier to success, and I encourage students to use the skills they've learned at TAFE NSW to jump in and take any opportunity to get ahead in the industry."

Nicholas Tran, 20, recently completed a Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice at TAFE NSW Kingswood after trading in his university studies to enrol at TAFE NSW. 

Mr Tran said Josh's experiences starting in the industry inspired him to put himself on the market and began door-knocking local real estates for work opportunities. 

"Our teachers had been encouraging us to canvas real estates in our area for jobs, and Josh's workshop helped give me the final push to introduce myself and hand out my resume," said Mr Tran. 

"I snagged two interviews, and thanks to the practical skills and confidence I gained as part of my course, I'm now working full time as a junior sales associate at Ray White Carnes Hill and just listed my first house for sale." 

TAFE NSW Real Estate teacher Scarlett Fouard said it was an ideal time to explore a career in property with the industry looking to fill an additional 7,000 jobs by 2025[i].

"On completion of Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice, students gain the minimum requirements set by Fair Trading NSW to work towards gaining a Class 2 real estate licence," said Ms Fouard. 

"Josh and Nick’s success stories highlight how our students graduate ready to transition to the workplace, with the real-world skills they need to hit the ground running.”
