We offer a range of courses from Bachelor degrees (equivalent to 3-4 years full-time study), through Associate Degrees (2 years full-time study equivalent) to Higher Education Diplomas (one year full-time study equivalent). We also have several post-graduate courses. All our courses are available for part-time study, so that you can study at your own pace while balancing other aspects of your life.

A bachelor degree is an undergraduate qualification that is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills you need to commence a professional career. Each bachelor degree focuses on a key area of study and builds your knowledge as you progress through your studies. Most TAFE NSW Higher Education bachelor degrees require the completion of three years full-time study (or part-time equivalent). While many school leavers choose to enrol in a bachelor degree when they complete high school, all TAFE NSW Higher Education courses including bachelor degrees are open for enrolment to mature age students, regardless of whether you completed high school.

Most TAFE NSW Higher Education bachelor degrees require the completion of three years full-time study (or part-time equivalent). Our Bachelor of Early Childhood Education and Care (Birth-5) which qualifies you to teach in early childhood settings is a four year degree (or part-time equivalent) and satisfies the requirements to be registered as an early childhood teacher in Australia. A Higher Education Diploma takes the equivalent of one year of full-time study, and our Associate Degree courses take the equivalent of two years full-time study to complete. All our courses are available for part-time study, so that you can study at your own pace while balancing other aspects of your life.

There are a number of ways you can qualify for admission into a TAFE NSW degree course. To ensure you are ready to study at degree level, you must hold as a minimum a NSW HSC or equivalent or a Tertiary Preparation Certificate or equivalent or a Certificate IV or higher qualification. In relation to the NSW HSC, we do not use ATAR for admission purposes.

If you do not have an HSC or TPC or Certificate IV and you are over 21 years of age or if you have experienced disadvantage, you can apply for entry under our mature age and disadvantage provisions. You will be required to provide evidence to demonstrate your ability to study at degree level.

Some courses have additional entry requirements, for example our creative courses require you to submit examples of art and design work and our business courses require you to undertake a literacy and numeracy assessment before you are offered a place.

Tuition fees

Tuition fees for degree courses are charged on a per-subject basis for domestic students and on a per-course basis for international students. Students pay tuition fees at the beginning of each semester for the subjects they are enrolled in for that semester. Most subjects are worth 10 credit points, although there are some subjects worth 5 and 20 credit points. Tuition fees vary between courses. All TAFE NSW fees and charges are reviewed on a yearly basis and are subject to change. Find out more.

Eligible domestic students can access a FEE-HELP loan to pay their tuition fees. Find out more about FEE-HELP including eligibility criteria.

In addition to tuition fees, some courses require students to pay additional charges to access learning materials, and some courses require students to purchase textbooks. These additional costs cannot be paid using a FEE-HELP loan.

FEE-HELP is an Australian government student loan program that allows eligible domestic students to pay their tuition fees using a FEE-HELP student loan. This means that you don’t need to use your own money to pay your tuition fees. You will start repaying the loan to the Australian government through the taxation system once you reach an income threshold set by the government (In 2024-2025 the income threshold is $54,435).

USI stands for Unique Student Identifier. USIs have been designed by the Australian government to enable students to track their record of learning across all post-school study. All new students enrolling in TAFE Degree courses must apply for a USI as part of the enrolment process. Students who have previously completed a vocational course, whether at TAFE or elsewhere, will already have a USI and will not be required to get a new USI when they enrol in a TAFE degree course. Students who do not have a USI will not be able to apply for a FEE-HELP loan.

You will also require a USI to receive your testamur on completion of your Higher Education course. Students who have completed a course and who do not have a USI cannot be issued with their testamur.

If you have completed previous study or you have professional or life experience relevant to the degree you are enrolling in, you may be eligible to apply for credit or recognition of prior learning. This could reduce the duration of your Higher Education course.
