This course is for all seafarers seeking Certificate of Competency revalidation who meet AMSA's sea service qualifying requirement. Refresh your skills during our two-day course, which includes both the life raft practical (including lifeboat on/off-load release simulator) and fire-fighting practical components.

Intermediate level fitness to manage physical demands
The ability to swim 50 metres and stay afloat for 5 minutes without a life jacket
The ability to work at sea as well as with people in difficult situations and circumstances
Awareness of the AMSA certification requirements
The ability to attend practical assessment sessions on campus and/or related facilities
Suitable clothing and personal protective equipment (PPE) for your assessments

This qualification is currently cited as meeting some of the requirements for certification by AMSA as an Engineer Class 1 (STCW Chief Engineer Unlimited) or Engineer Class 2 (STCW Second Engineer Unlimited) as defined in Marine Orders and the International Convention on Standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW). This qualification is required to obtain an AMSA certificate of competency as an Engineer Class 1 (STCW Chief Engineer Unlimited) as defined in Marine Orders and STCW. The maritime industry is regulated by AMSA. AMSA sets specific requirements for each maritime qualification to ensure you are ready to join the industry. Once you graduate from your TAFE NSW course, you will be assessed against the relevant requirements through an AMSA examination process. Graduating from this course only meets part of the AMSA exam criteria. You will need to meet other requirements through your professional sea service and medical status.
