    Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

    • Identify plants and understand how best to tend them

    • Implement a plant nutrition program

    • Use your keen eye to troubleshoot and report on plant health

    • Conduct specialist transplanting, pruning and mowing operations

    • Control weeds, plant pests, diseases and disorders

    Entry recommendations

    To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

    • An interest in the natural environment

    • A comfort in working outdoors, in different environments, terrains and in a range of weather conditions

    • A reasonable level of fitness to use wheelbarrows, do repetitive lifting and be on your feet for long periods

    • Literacy, numeracy and computer literacy at Year 10 level

    • Students attending TAFE practical classes must provide their own PPE clothing, including a cotton long-sleeved shirt, long cotton work pants, leather work boots and a brimmed hat suitable for working outdoors in line with industry requirements. All other task-specific PPE will be supplied by TAFE unless otherwise advised by the class teacher.

    UnitsUnits taught in this course

    Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Parks and Gardens qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 16 units of competency, including 11 core and 5 speciality units.

    Please note, not all specialty units are offered at every TAFE NSW location. It is highly recommended that you check with your preferred campus for information about the specialty units offered at that location.
