    Learning outcomes

    Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

    • Obtain engineering measurements and prepare freehand sketches to convey information

    • Use fitting skills and techniques

    • Set and edit computer-controlled machine processes

    • Maintain hydraulic system components

    • Perform electronic measurements

    • Operate excavators, bobcats, mining borers, generators and power generation machinery

    Entry requirements

    This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol

    • To take this course as an apprenticeship you need to be employed as an apprentice in the industry as evidenced by a letter of support from your employer and

    • Submit your Training Plan Proposal (TPP) with your application

    Entry recommendations

    To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

    • Experience in handling tools and equipment

    • An interest in working with engineering drawings

    • An aptitude for working with your hands and good hand-eye coordination

    • A desire to pursue a career in the mining, shipping, gas and oil drilling, manufacturing or aviation industries

    Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 96 units of competency, including 33 core and 63 speciality units.
