    Learning outcomes

    Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

      • Complete concreting work on bridges, suspended slabs, columns, beams and walls
      • Construct, erect and dismantle formwork - moulds for concrete that can be cast in place or precast
      • Construct, erect and dismantle falsework - temporary reinforcement to support constructions
      • Read and interpret plans, take measurements and make calculations
      • Use hand tools, power tools and small plant including a pump, generator, compressor or a ground compactor
      • Perform maintenance and take preventative measures, following work health and safety (WHS) procedures

    Entry requirements

    This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol

    • Be employed as an apprentice in industry

    • Register with an Apprenticeship Connect Australia Provider (ACAP) who will support your application

    • This course may also be offered as a non-apprenticeship. To enrol as a non-apprentice, you need relevant employment, as evidenced by a letter from your employer. Enquire today to discuss your eligibility.

    Completion requirements

    During your study you’ll need to provide your teacher with the following evidence:

    • A general construction induction card (commonly known as a white card).

    • To complete the Operate elevating work platform you need to be 18 years old to sit the licenced unit assessment. Your teacher can help schedule this unit towards the end of your course, if needed.

    Entry recommendations

    To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

    • Good hand-eye coordination and the ability to use hand tools

    • Comfort working at heights and in confined spaces

    • An intermediate level of fitness to manage physical tasks like shovelling, moving surveying equipment, and walking long distances

    • The ability to work well as part of a team

    • A commitment to safety

    • Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) at a Year 10 high school level

    Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Civil Construction (Bridge Construction and Maintenance) qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 26 units of competency, including 8 core and 18 speciality units.
