    Throughout this course you will learn practical skills in upholstery, flooring and soft furnishings to elevate spaces and bring personality to a room. Open doors to apply for apprenticeships and further specialised study in furnishing.

    Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

    • Use basic power and hand tools to assemble and upholster furniture

    • Perform measurements and calculations

    • Use drawings, work orders and sample parts for specifications

    • Select and work with a variety of materials including timber, foams, cushioning and fabric

    • Use environmentally sustainable work practices

    To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

    • An interest in one of the following: upholstery, flooring technology, mattress and base making or coopering (wine barrel making and refurbishing).

    • Practical capabilities and an interest in working with your hands

    • Strong spatial awareness and hand-eye coordination

    • Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) at a Year 10 high school level
