    Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

    • Identify worksite hazards and correct them

    • Plan the relocation of a load and ensure it's consistent with the code of practice

    • Check a forklift truck logbook

    • Carry out a pre-start checks and report any damage or defects

    • Safely park the forklift and carry out correct shutdown procedures

    To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

    • Reached 18 years of age when you commence this course. You must be 18 years of age to be eligible for a forklift truck licence.

    • An interest in warehousing and logistics

    • Intermediate level fitness to manage physical demands like manual handling

    • Effective communication skills to work with others when handling loads and equipment

    • Good organisational skills and the ability to multitask in difficult situations

    Licensing

    This is a licensed occupation. After you successfully complete the Statement of Attainment in Licence to Operate a Forklift Truck and have fulfilled all other eligibility criteria, you will need to apply for a forklift truck (LF) licence with SafeWork NSW. This is the licensing and regulatory authority in NSW. Eligibility criteria are as follows: - You will need to be at least 18 years old to be eligible to sit the SafeWork assessment for high risk work licences - You will need 100 points of identification - You will need to provide proof of NSW residential address Please note that the SafeWork assessment is taken in English. Application fees apply. A forklift truck licence allows you to operate a forklift truck, equipped with a mast and an elevating load carriage with a pair of fork arms or other attachment. This licence class is not for an order picking forklift truck. Visit SafeWork NSW for more information.
