Want to restore your own classic car or vintage motorcycle? Spend time on what you love with expert teachers in our fully-equipped workshops. This course has no assessments. Instead, your teacher will guide you through restoring your own vehicle.
During this course you'll learn to:
Repair rust sections on the body of a vehicle and align body panels
Remove paint from panels and prepare them for undercoats
Repair dents using plastic filler techniques
Block down panels and prepare undercoats for paint application
Mask vehicles for primers and paint applications
Apply colour to vehicle body panels
You'll leave this course with:
A restored or partially restored vehicle that you have worked on during the course
A basic understanding of the construction of vehicles and repair methods
Specialist skills to restore a vehicle including basic bodywork repair techniques, metalworking skills, rust removal methods and spray painting techniques
An understanding of how to use equipment safely and the sequential order to complete repair steps
Pathways to further study in body repair and/or automotive refinishing
A Certification of Completion

To be prepared for this course, we recommend you have:
A vehicle to restore such as a car, motorbike or truck
An interest interest in restoring a vehicle or working in body repair and/or automotive refinishing
A reasonable level of fitness, including the ability to bend, sit in awkward positions, and lift a minimum of 10kg
Your own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as steel-capped boots and appropriate clothing

Our graduates go onto roles like: apprentice vehicle restorer, automotive restoration assistant, junior automotive technician, apprentice spray painter and apprentice panel beater.
There are many career pathways and opportunities to choose from when you graduate from the TAFE Statement in Vehicle Restoration. If you choose to complete further study and start a vehicle restoration business, you may require a Motor Vehicle Repairer’s License. It’s important to check the licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements relating to your future career by visiting NSW Fair Trading or your state licensing body.
