    Become a technically accomplished design professional and gain the skills you need for a successful career as a 3D and visual effects artist and animator. Learn to collaborate on creative projects, strengthen your interpersonal and communication skills, graduate with a show-reel of your work, ready to become a creative leader. Graduates of the Bachelor of 3D Art and Animation can establish themselves across a range of creative industries including filmmaking, game design and development, television, online content development, virtual production (VP), virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), and advertising. This degree has been created in close consultation with the industry. You’ll gain a theoretical grounding in art and animation principles and experience production in deadline-driven commercial environments.

    Entry requirements

    This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol

    You must demonstrate that you have achieved one of the following:

    • A NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC) or its equivalent

    • A Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation or its equivalent

    • A completed certificate IV or higher vocational qualification

    You must also

    • Submit a short essay in which you select a specific scene or shot from a film or piece of media with a strong visual impact, where CGI has been used to enhance the shot. Discuss the visual elements and techniques employed and their relevance to the story. This written task allows us to gauge applicants' passion for visual storytelling. Please limit your response to one or two pages – no more than 500 words.

    • Submit a portfolio to demonstrate your creative talent. This must include 8 to 12 pieces of design and artwork showcasing different skillsets.

    • Attend a pre-admission interview with a Higher Education Course Coordinator if you are successful with the essay and portfolio stages. You may also be asked to complete a short literacy and numeracy task. This helps us to understand how we can support your study success and provide you with any necessary support.

    Note:

    • Your certificates, transcripts and other entry requirement evidence must be certified through a Justice of the Peace or other authorising officer

    Entry recommendations

    To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

    • A passion for film, design and drawing

    • An interest in working with visual design software

    • Good collaboration and communication skills

    • A commitment to staying up to date with new technologies

    • Access to a PC or Mac capable of running high-end 3D software such as Maya, SideFX Houdni, Unreal or Blender. You can access this equipment on campus, however it is highly recommended you have your own equipment available

    You do not require an ATAR score for entry into this course.

    If you are unable to meet the entry requirements, you may be eligible for special admission.
