    This Retirement and Estate microcredential qualification comprises of one subject and runs for 12 weeks. You can choose to study online or face-to-face. In this short course, you'll learn about retirement and estate planning legislation, reforms and strategies, including social security and aged care in Australia. This is an essential short course for financial advisers, financial services industry employees and career changers looking to upskill in this specialty area. You'll focus on the financial planning industry body of knowledge. Specifically, you'll focus on retirement and estate planning, research, analysis and recommendations to meet client goals and objectives in an ethical, legal and socially responsible manner.

    You'll have the opportunity to hear from industry experts who will enhance your learning by providing first-hand insights and information. This course is also an excellent place to start if you're looking to further your studies with the Graduate Diploma of Financial Planning. Graduates of the insurance and superannuation course can receive one subject credit when they go on to study the Graduate Diploma of Financial Planning.

    Learning outcomes

    Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

    • Develop strategies for retirement and estate planning in an advice document in an ethical and professional manner

    • Present retirement and estate planning strategy recommendations in an advice document

    • Communicate and analyse the impacts of recent developments and key challenges in retirement and estate planning, including social security and aged care

    • Explain to clients the nature and purpose of wills, executors, attorneys, trusts, guardianships and death benefit nominations

    • Synthesise information to formulate effective financial decisions and solutions, including tax implications on retirement and estate planning

    Develop specialist skills to gain an advantage in the job market

    • A nationally recognised higher education microcredential qualification

    • The confidence to assess clients in the area of retirement and estate planning

    • The skills to develop recommendations in an advice document in the retirement and estate planning areas

    • Recognition of prior learning for the Graduate Diploma of Finance. The 1 subject studied in the microcredential will be recognised and credited towards the Graduate Diploma of Finance qualification, with a fee-deduction

    • For existing advisers or those attaining the Professional Year (PY), a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) certificate will be provided upon successful completion of this subject. Please check with your licensee on the CPD policy requirements.

    Entry requirements

    This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol

    You must demonstrate that you have achieved one of the following:

    • Hold a diploma or advanced diploma in financial planning and are currently practicing financial planning or

    • Hold a bachelor's degree in any discipline (including financial services degrees not on the Financial Adviser Standards (FAS) approved list (https://fas.treasury.gov.au/))

    Note:

    • Your certificates, transcripts and other entry requirement evidence must be certified through a Justice of the Peace or other authorising officer

    • Please ensure to attach all evidence when applying for this course to demonstrate the minimum entry requirements and for ease of the enrolment process.

    You do not require an ATAR score for entry into this course.
