    OverviewAbout this course

    This short course in superannuation and retirement comprises of one subject and runs for 12 weeks. In this course, you'll learn about the process of superannuation, retirement planning and gain an introduction into the aged-care system. You'll explore the history of superannuation, legislation, types of superannuation funds (including self-managed super funds) and contributions. You'll also examine why retirement funding is a core strategy for all working Australians and the effects of superannuation funds with respect to taxation and benefit payments. This course is also an excellent place to start if you're looking to further your studies with the Bachelor of Applied Commerce. Graduates of the superannuation and retirement course can receive one subject credit when they go on to study the Bachelor of Applied Commerce.

    Learning outcomes

    Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

    • Develop superannuation and retirement planning strategies in an advice document in an ethical, professional and socially responsible manner

    • Present superannuation and retirement strategy recommendations in an advice document

    • Evaluate superannuation structures and understand taxation implications on superannuation

    • Demonstrate awareness of the social security and aged care environment

    Develop specialist skills to gain an advantage in the job market

    • A nationally recognised higher education microcredential qualification

    • Knowledge and understanding of superannuation in the Australian context, including the effects on changing demographics and other retirement issues

    • The confidence to assess potential clients in the area of superannuation and retirement

    • Recognition of prior learning for the Bachelor of Applied Commerce. The 1 subject studied in the microcredential will be recognised and credited towards the Bachelor of Applied Commerce qualification, with a fee-deduction

    Entry requirements

    This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol

    You must demonstrate that you have achieved one of the following:

    • A NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC) or its equivalent OR

    • A Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation or its equivalent OR

    • A completed certificate IV or higher vocational qualification AND

    • Successful completion of Financial planning Fundamentals (MHE5011FP) OR

    • Demonstrate capability to meet personal finance or financial planning by suitable evidence via qualifications, experience, training OR

    • A personal finance/financial planning challenge test will be conducted.

    You may also:

    • Attend a pre-admission interview where you may also be asked to complete a short literacy and numeracy task - this helps us to understand how we can support your study success and provide you with any necessary support

    Note:

    • Your certificates, transcripts and other entry requirement evidence must be certified through a Justice of the Peace or other authorising officer

    • Please ensure to attach all evidence when applying for this course to demonstrate the minimum entry requirements and for ease of the enrolment process.

    To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

    You do not require an ATAR score for entry into this course.
