    Virtual classrooms at TAFE NSW

A young man is sitting at a desk in a well-lit room, smiling as he works on a laptop. He is holding a pair of glasses in one hand while navigating on his laptop with the other.

At TAFE NSW, the use of virtual classrooms helps break down geographical barriers and provides flexibility in learning.
Participating in a virtual classroom is essential for remote and online study. This experience also helps to build digital and remote-working skills that employers value.

    Virtual learning benefits

Virtual classrooms are an easy and convenient way to connect teachers and students.

    You also benefit from:

    • a teacher guiding the class through learning activities
    • individual support from your teachers to help you stay on track
    • access to classmates and social interaction with peers in a virtual setting
    • learning remote-working skills that are becoming increasingly important in modern workplaces, and valued by employers.

    Prepare for virtual study

When participating in a virtual classroom at TAFE NSW, the same things apply as with all other TAFE NSW learning spaces. Preparing your learning space, connecting your devices and accessories, and having the confidence and skills to be a productive and engaged participant during your virtual classes - will set you up for success.

There are several web conferencing platforms used to connect students and teachers. The main one is Microsoft Teams.
Teachers will update you on class times and platforms.

Our Virtual Classroom Guide gives a summary of:

    • what you can expect
    • what you will need to prepare
    • tips for troubleshooting common connection issues
    • how to participate in class, what respect looks like in a virtual classroom, and how to get the most from your virtual classroom.
