To be prepared for your studies, there are a few things you need to know.

    Student Guide 2025

The TAFE NSW Student Guide provides you with comprehensive information to get you started.

    It covers topics like:

    • the academic calendar

    • digital tools and platforms

    • life on campus

    • support services

    • planning your studies

    • your rights and responsibilities

    • many other helpful topics.

We recommend that you read this guide thoroughly before you start your course.

    Staying safe online

As a TAFE NSW student you will be required to do online reading and research as part of your course.

To help you stay safe when studying online, you should:

    • have strong passwords that include letters, number and characters

    • never leave devices unattended

    • always use a secure network

    • only visit sensitive sites, such as banking or shopping, on a personal device

    • make sure you have installed the latest anti-virus or anti-malware software

    • be careful when clicking on links and attachments in email

    • monitor your account for unusual activity.

You should never share your password with anyone, including TAFE NSW staff.

To learn more please read our flyer on the Top 10 Cyber Security Tips for Students.

    Unusual emails

Always be careful when clicking on attachments or links in emails, as these could be phishing messages from scammers. Consider who the email is from and what they are asking you to do. Many phishing emails will ask you to do something urgently and may ask you to enter your login details.

If you receive an unexpected or suspicious email for any reason, don’t open it or click on any links. It is safer to just delete them.

    Accidentally clicked on a link?

If you click a link in an unusual email and are asked to enter your log in details, you need to:

    • reset your password immediately

    • delete the email

    • call 131 601 to reset your password.

    Your TAFEcard

Your TAFEcard is vital for campus identification and assessments. It will remain valid throughout your enrolment.

It is also used for things such as:

    • library borrowing

    • photocopying

    • printing

    • travel concessions.

Please note, the NSW Government provides subsidised or concessional travel for eligible students.

    To check your eligibility, visit:

    • Service NSW, or

    • your campus Student Administration Office.

    Don’t have a TAFEcard?

If you don’t have a TAFEcard, you can either:

    • visit the campus Student Administration Office to request a new card, or

    • submit an online enquiry with a copy of your ID.

If you have lost or damaged your TAFEcard, you can order a replacement card for $20.
