    Are you graduating from your hospitality, cooking, baking, patisserie, travel, tourism, or events qualification in 2023 or 2024? You should apply for the William R Galvin Memorial Scholarship, valued at $5,000. The scholarship supports further study, training, or work placements in the tourism, travel, and hospitality industries in Australia and overseas.

    This TAFE NSW scholarship takes the name of Bill Galvin, a former teacher and influential figure in the tourism and hospitality industry. Bill held various leadership positions in hospitality and tourism, including Chief Executive of Tourism Training Australia and Chair of the Tourism, Hospitality and Catering Institute. Bill’s passion for training and supporting young people led him to receive the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in 1997.

    Who can apply?

    To apply for a William R Galvin Memorial Scholarship, you must:

    • have graduated from a hospitality, cooking, baking, patisserie, travel, tourism, or events qualification in 2023, or be on track to complete your qualification in one of these course areas by the end of 2024

    In your application, your teacher must endorse that you:

    • show a high standard of academic achievement in your studies
    • demonstrate strong participation, passion, and commitment to the tourism and hospitality industry
    • apply skills and knowledge learned throughout your course to a range of technical tasks and interpersonal skills in your class and/or workplace
    • be open to new ideas, techniques, and different ways of learning.
