With a foundation in business studies this course investigates the key elements you’ll need for a future career in events and tourism. You’ll graduate with solid teamwork and critical thinking skills, exploring events in both tourism and non-tourism contexts, such as sports, festivals, conventions, meetings and community activities.
Begin your study pathway
All you need to begin your study pathway towards the Bachelor of Event and Tourism Management, is to complete a Diploma or Advanced Diploma in one of the three career areas below. TAFE NSW Diploma graduates will then receive 24 credit points and Advanced Diploma graduates will gain 36 points towards the Bachelor of Event and Tourism, enabling you to complete both qualifications in as little as three-years.

On completion of a TAFE NSW Diploma or Advanced Diploma in either Event Management, Hospitality Management or Travel and Tourism Management, you will apply for entry to the degree via the University of Canberra website. The pre-negotiated credit between TAFE NSW and the University of Canberra will automatically be granted upon application.

The partnership between TAFE NSW and University of Canberra provides the opportunity for you to also study the Bachelor degree in Northern Sydney. You can either study this course face-to-face at TAFE NSW St Leonards (Northern Sydney) or online via a virtual classroom.
You will only attend the University of Canberra for the graduation ceremony.

Diploma graduates: 24 credit points (equivalent to one year) from a total of 72 credit points required.
Advanced Diploma graduates: 36 credit points – although you will study fewer units, the degree will still involve two years of study for completion.
An IELTS Academic score of 6.0 overall is required, with no band score below 6.0 (or equivalent such as previous study in Australia).

Please refer to the University of Canberra website for semester key dates. There are two semesters each year and each semester is 14 weeks in duration.
Full-time Face-to-face learning: Four two-hour classes at TAFE NSW St Leonards over two afternoons per week.
Full-time Online learning: Four two-hour virtual classes held over two to three evenings per week.
Both modes of study are supported by extensive online material.
Domestic students: select either face-to-face or online learning. You can also opt to reduce the workload to part-time by taking less than four units.
International students: full-time study is compulsory (four units per semester). You will need to allocate a significant amount of time for assessment regardless of your delivery options.
You can study all or part of your course using virtual tools, attending online tutorials, using video materials and having one-on-one time with your educators by phone or online conferencing.
International students: Your student visa may affect online and flexible study options. As a result, you may be required to attend lessons at TAFE NSW St Leonards.
You will need to allocate eight hours as a minimum for self-directed study and assessment regardless of your delivery options.
Elective choices are limited due to smaller class sizes. Discuss your career pathways with your teacher.
Most units involve written essays and proposals. However, there are units that will include exams.
A TAFE NSW Diploma student will generally be required to study 16 units which is the equivalent of four subjects per semester.
You can apply for a HELP loan to study the degree, if eligible.
TAFE NSW Diploma or Advanced Diploma students can apply for FEE-HELP, if eligible.
A USI (Unique Student Identifier) is your individual education number for life. It also creates an online record of your Australian training achievements.
