Set Up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on Apple iOS
What do I need to know?
TAFE NSW has introduced MFA for Students to help ensure the safety of our students’ information. PingID is the MFA software used by TAFE NSW. This guide will show you how to set up PingID on your Apple iOS device so that you can securely log in to TAFE NSW systems. This applies to Apple iOS versions 11.0 or later.
To complete this set up, you will need an Internet connected computer to log in on (it can be your own or a TAFE one), and your up-to-date Apple phone. You will also need to have a lock enabled on your Apple device, e.g.: a pass code.
Once you have finished this set up, be sure that you only allow log ins via your Apple device when it is you trying to log in to your account.
If you ever see a request on your device and you are not trying to log in at that time, then it could be someone else with your password. Report such cases to the Student Technology Service Desk urgently on 131 601.
Steps
Step 1 - Download and Install PingID on your Apple iOS Device

On your Apple device, go to the Apple App Store, search for PingID and tap on “Get” to install it on your device.
Download and install PingID from the Apple App Store.
Step 2 – Set up Your PingID App on your Device

When you log in to a TAFE NSW system with your username and password for the first time, you will see the Activate MFA screen.
If you click on “YES”, you will then see the “Welcome to PingID” screen on your computer. You can then click on “START” to begin the process.
If you do not want to use MFA at all, you can click on “NO”.
Clicking on Start will begin the pairing process.

Your computer screen will show an “Add a New Device” screen. You will now need to open and configure the PingID app on your Apple device before scanning the QR code that is showing on your computer screen.
Open the PingID app on your device to get it ready for scanning the QR Code.

The first time you open the PingID App on your Apple device, you will need to accept the Terms of Service. Tap on “Accept”, then tap on “I Understand” on the next screen. Tap on “Continue” on the Welcome to Ping ID screen. PingID will then ask for permissions to use your device’s camera, notifications, and location to function correctly. Tap on Allow or OK in each of these cases.
Accept the Terms of Service and Allow Permissions.
Step 3 – Pair Your Apple Device with PingID

Use your Apple device’s camera to scan the QR code that is showing on your computer screen. If you have any issues scanning, you may instead choose to tap on “Enter Pairing Key Manually” and then type in the Pairing Code you see on your computer screen.
Scan the QR Code on your computer screen with your device.

Once successful, you should see a green ‘thumbs up’ screen on your Apple device.
Successfully scanning the QR Code or manually entering the pairing key will result in the green “Success” on your device.

Complete the set up by entering a Profile name for yourself (you do not need to add a photo), then tap on “Done”.
Enter a profile name for yourself and tap on “Done”.
Step 4 – Authenticate with PingID

From now on, after you log in using your password, you will need your Apple device with you to approve your log in. Do this by sliding up in the PingID App or by Approving via the Notification that will appear on your device. If you do not receive a Notification, you can enter the 6-digit code showing in your device’s PingID App into the screen on your computer after clicking on “Use Code”.
Slide up to approve your login or tap on “Approve” when your device notifies you. Enter the 6-digit passcode you see in your PingID App.
