    Develop confidence in the hospitality industry as you take customer orders, restock food and drinks and problem solve on your feet. Work in fast-paced kitchens, cafes and bars and lead a team in a booming field.

    Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

    • Upon completion of SITXFSA005 Use hygienic practices for food safety and SITXFSA006 Participate in safe food handling practices, students are eligible to obtain the Food Authority NSW Food Safety Supervisor Certificate, which costs $30

    • Complete unit SITHFAB021 Responsible service of alcohol and SITHGAM022 Provide responsible gambling services, to be eligible for the Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) card and the Responsible Conduct of Gambling (RSG) card - cost of $97 and $45

    • Be employed in the hospitality industry as this course is delivered in the workplace

    • Have a signed traineeship contract

    Entry recommendations

    To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

    • Reached at least 17 years of age so you are able to work in the industry serving alcohol at the completion of your course after you turn 18

    • Identified if you have any cultural considerations around serving alcohol as alternate speciality units can be made available to facilitate course completion

    • A passion for the kitchens, cafes, bars and hotels

    • An interest in working in a fast-paced, shift environment

    • The ability to work in a team

    • Good communication skills

    • Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) at a Year 10 high school level

    Licensing

    Liquor & Gaming NSW regulates the liquor industry in NSW. TAFE NSW is approved by Liquor and Gaming NSW to deliver RSA, RCG, ARCG and Licensee/Advanced Licensee courses. At the completion of your course, present your interim RSA/RCG certificates to Service NSW to get your competency card that permits you to work in the industry serving, selling or supplying alcohol. Please refer to the Liquor & Gaming NSW website for more information and for current costs. Recognition of NSW RSA and RCG competency in other jurisdictions: Responsible service of alcohol legislative and knowledge requirements differ across borders. Check with the relevant state authority to see if your NSW RSA and RCG competency is recognised.

    Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Hospitality qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 15 units of competency, including 6 core and 9 speciality units.

    Please note, not all specialty units are offered at every TAFE NSW location. It is highly recommended that you check with your preferred campus for information about the specialty units offered at that location.
