    Learn or improve your English language skills in a range of real-life situations. This course is for people who are not Australian citizens, who do not hold a permanent residency visa, and are not eligible for government funded study.

    OutcomesWhat you'll gain

    Learning outcomes

    During this course you'll learn to:

    • Develop your English language skills through practice in everyday situations, including giving and understanding directions

    • Understand Australian systems such as public transport, the medical system, Service NSW, and an understanding of Australian culture and communities

    • Use Microsoft Word and Teams, and do basic internet research for trip planning and to learn about Australia and its wildlife

    • Enhance your listening skills to understand radio, podcasts, TV, and recorded messages like airport and train announcements, and emergency warnings

    • Develop writing skills to complete forms, applications, and emails; practice communication for transactions like buying household goods or negotiating to buy a car

    • Access community resources through practical projects, including excursions that build your confidence and English proficiency

    Course outcomes

    You'll leave this course with:

    • A Certificate of Attendance

    • Improved English language skills to use in a variety of real world and everyday situations

    • Knowledge about Australian culture, public transport, Service NSW and the medical system

    • English language skills to set up utilities (gas, electricity and water), mobile phones and rental services

    • English language skills to do further study depending on your visa conditions

    Entry requirements

    Some courses require evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol

    • You will need to attend a 45 minute placement assessment with an ESOL teacher on campus. This is to assess your current English language level and needs.

    • There will also be a 15 minute interview as part of the application process. This is to talk about your timetable, availability and dates. Please allow for a total of 1 hour for the assessment and interview.

    • During your interview your visa conditions will be checked with the Visa Entitlement Verification Online system (VEVO). To do this we will need you to bring your passport and your visa to the interview. Your study program will be confirmed in the interview.

    To be prepared for this course, we recommend you have:

    • A desire to improve your English language skills

    • An interest in learning more about Australia, and living in and accessing the local community
