Manage arborists and supervise high-risk tree felling and dismantling operations with your feet planted firmly on the ground. Become an arborist works coordinator to conduct safety audits, assess tree defects and perform tree defect evaluations.
Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:
Supervise a team to ensure safe tree arborist operations, conduct a safety audit and provide First Aid
Audit tree operations to ensure accurate work has been completed
Perform pruning operations and ground-based rigging
Identify trees, inspecting them for how to access and complete arboriculture work, and implement a tree maintenance program
Trim, cut, and manually fell trees at an intermediate level using chainsaws
Maintain chainsaws

Be in relevant employment as a Trainee, as this course is delivered in the workplace. You will need to submit a signed traineeship contract, as evidenced by a letter of support from your employer, and your Training Plan Proposal (TPP) with your application.

To complete this course, you may need to attend a different TAFE NSW campus for specialist units, as training is pooled across Yallah (in Wollongong), Richmond, Padstow, Ryde, and Wetherill Park campuses. This arrangement ensures effective training, and your teacher will inform you when assessments are scheduled and if travel to another campus is necessary.
To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:
The ability to provide your own steel-capped boots, long sleeve shirts and chainsaw protective pants (chaps) in drill cotton. These are required on the first day of class.
A class C Car licence, to transport tools and vehicles around a range of TAFE NSW simulated environments that may be distant from your campus location
Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) at a Year 12 high school level, to read arboriculture references, chemical labels, safety data sheets, and perform basic mathematical calculations
