No two days will be the same, you'll travel to different worksites to install, service and repair high tech appliances and enjoy building ongoing trusting relationships. You can start your own appliance service business or take your studies further with transferrable skills and be dual qualified.

Learning outcomes
Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:
- Understand industry codes, practices and regulations
- Read and use drawings, diagrams, schedules and specifications
- Find and fix faults in appliance control systems, single phase and three phase motors
- Service and install washing machines, dryers, refrigeration, small electrical appliances and power tools
- Disconnect and reconnect low voltage wiring
- Follow set procedures to locate and fix faults

This course is offered as an apprenticeship. Enquire today to check the eligibility requirements.
- To take this course as an apprenticeship you need to be employed as an apprentice in the industry as evidenced by a letter of support from your employer and
- Submit your Training Plan Proposal (TPP) with your application
Completion requirements
During your study you’ll need to provide your teacher with the following evidence:
- A trainee or classroom refrigerant handling licence issued through the Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC)
Entry recommendations
To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:
- An interest in electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, and refrigeration appliances
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Maths skills at an Australian Year 10 level or equivalent
- The ability to work independently and manage your own workload

Licensing
A Refrigerant Handling Licence must be held by any person who carries out work in relation to refrigeration and air conditioning equipment. Visit Arctick for more information. The NSW RAC Occupational Licence meets NSW regulatory requirements for individuals undertaking refrigeration and air conditioning work. Visit NSW Fair Trading for more information. The Restricted Electrical Occupation Licence meets NSW electrical regulatory requirements for restricted electrical work. Visit NSW Fair Trading for more information.

UnitsUnits taught in this course
Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Appliance Service qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 1080 Weighting points, including 870 core and 210 speciality units.
Please note, not all specialty units are offered at every TAFE NSW location. It is highly recommended that you check with your preferred campus for information about the specialty units offered at that location.
