The Bachelor of Information Technology (Data Engineering) provides you with the essential knowledge and technical skills for the design, implementation, and management of ‘big data’, data systems and their infrastructure to support big data solutions.
There is a growing demand for professionals with the experience and qualifications to build IT solutions and manage big data. At TAFE NSW we have strong partnership arrangements with industry partners such as Cisco, AWS, Microsoft, and NDG.
Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:
Apply a wide range of knowledge in information and communication technology, particularly the practical application and theoretical frameworks of networking, data engineering and data analytics
Develop and apply problem-solving and decision-making skills to solve data engineering problems in complex environments
Conduct ICT research in the area of data engineering and analysis including evaluating new information and technologies from a range of sources
Effectively communicate ideas and information around data engineering applications and the results of data analytics to various audiences
Collaborate ethically, professionally and responsibly as an ICT data engineering professional in a range of environments
Adapt to the rapidly changing and evolving technologies and practices of the ICT industry
Develop specialist skills to gain an advantage in the job market
Graduate with a bachelor's degree

This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol
A NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC) or its equivalent as evidenced by a certified copy of your certificate or transcript OR
A Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation or its equivalent as evidenced by a certified copy of your certificate or transcript OR
A completed certificate IV or higher vocational qualification as evidenced by a certified copy of your certificate or transcript
Submit a 500-word essay that shows your motivation to study and work in the information technology industry
Attend a pre-admission interview where you may also be asked to complete a short literacy and numeracy task - this helps us to understand how we can support your study success and provide you with any necessary support
Have mathematics knowledge to HSC-level or equivalent before entering this course, or you may be required to undertake a bridging program or preparatory course
Your certificates, transcripts and other entry requirement evidence must be certified through a Justice of the Peace or other authorising officer

Some experience and knowledge in information technology
A strong interest in information technology and data engineering
Computer and digital literacy
A background in information technology
You do not require an ATAR score for entry into this course.
