Build your ability to use popular CAD software and produce compliant documentation for Class 1 and 10 buildings as a draftsperson or architectural assistant. After this course, you can complete further studies to become an accredited building designer.

Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:
Use CAD software like Revit and ArchiCAD to support building designers and architects in producing drawings for Class 1 and 10 building designs
Identify appropriate construction methods and materials
Apply compliance, planning and building requirements for building design documentation
Review and apply National Construction Code (NCC) compliance regulation around building and construction in various settings
Sketch and annotate structural components

This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol
Attend a pre-enrolment interview with your teacher who will evaluate your skills to determine how we can best support your success or if an alternative pathway is recommended
Undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills test to assist us in designing your individualised plan that supports your study success and ensures your LLN skills match the demands of the course
Completion requirements
During your study you’ll need to provide your teacher with the following evidence:
A general construction induction card (commonly known as a white card) – you will need this before you can enter a construction site. You can gain your white card during this course in the specialty unit CPCCWHS1001, or at a TAFE NSW campus that has an accredited work cover assessor.
Entry recommendations
To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:
Strong communication
Problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Planning and organisational skills to coordinate construction
Maths skills at a Year 12 or equivalent level
Confidence using a computer
Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) at a Year 12 high school level

This skills test helps us to understand your individual study needs, to design an individualised plan that supports your study success and ensures your LLN skills match the demands of the course.

UnitsUnits taught in this course
Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate IV in Residential Drafting qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 10 units of competency, including 7 core and 3 speciality units.
Please note, not all specialty units are offered at every TAFE NSW location. It is highly recommended that you check with your preferred campus for information about the specialty units offered at that location.
