Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol
Be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, must identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and be accepted within their community
Complete an electronic IPROWD application form
Have a driving record showing no history of serious offences
Be at least 17 and 10 months of age at the start of the course
Take part in a pre-enrolment interview
Complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills review. This helps us to determine that your skills match the demands of the course, to direct you to an alternative study option or to provide you with the appropriate support for your success. Your teacher will let you know when this must be completed.
During your study you’ll need to provide your teacher with the following evidence:
Working With Children Check (WWCC)
A National Police Check
Medical and fitness screening
Vaccinations related to Influenza and/or COVID-19 as this is a public health mandate
Any other vaccinations required by your workplace
To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:
An interest in policing, serving and creating safer communities
The ability to pass a basic screening by the NSW Police Force and Australian Federal Police, which includes a criminal history and driving record check
An interest in advancing your career pathway
An ability to read and interpret documents and reports
Good teamwork and communication skills

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Vocational and Study Pathways for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander People qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 15 units of competency, including 10 core and 5 speciality units.
Please note, not all specialty units are offered at every TAFE NSW location. It is highly recommended that you check with your preferred campus for information about the specialty units offered at that location.
Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.
