Danny O'Connor, Chairperson for TAFE NSW, has had a successful career co-leading significant healthcare transformation projects in NSW.
Danny O'Connor brings extensive experience in healthcare management and public administration to his role as Chair. He has served as general manager of hospitals and Chief Executive of healthcare organisations, like Western Sydney Local Health District and Greater Western Area Health Service. He has extensive experience in government and public administration, with a focus on stakeholder management in health services.
Danny had the privilege of co-leading one of the most significant change management and capital redevelopment programs in NSW. This included the redesign and expansion of Blacktown and Mt Druitt Hospitals, and the creation of the Westmead Health and Innovation Precinct. Danny recognises the important role hospitals play in healthcare. He also worked closely with Primary Health Networks and general practices to improve community, home and self-managed care.
Since retiring from public healthcare, Danny has worked with various organisations to help develop and provide a diverse range of services. This includes new medical technologies, improved services for the elderly and people with disability, and support for higher education. He has also focused on enhancing primary healthcare.
He has previously served on a number of boards and is currently a director or board member of several.
Danny holds a Bachelor of Social Studies (Hons) from the University of Sydney, and a Master of Social Policy from the University of New South Wales. He is a graduate of studies in Global Health Leadership from the University of California, Berkeley, and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
