    Learning outcomes

    Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

    • Provide responsible alcohol and gambling services to customers

    • Promote safety (harm minimisation) in venues where there are liquor or gaming machines

    • Recognise drinking and gambling problems and addictions

    • Follow organisational policies and procedures around gaming and gambling

    • Make an assortment of espresso-based coffee beverages

    • Follow hygiene procedures and identify food hazards

    • Interim RSA and RCG certification that allows you to work immediately in liquor and gaming venues across NSW, before applying for competency card

    Entry requirements

    This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol

    • That you are at least 16 years of age as evidenced by a copy of your photo identification

    Completion requirements

    During your study you’ll need to provide your teacher with the following evidence:

    • Photo identification to generate your RSA and RCG interim certificates

    To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

    • An interest in working in the hospitality industry

    • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment

    • You must be at least 16 years old on the date of your enrolment in this course. This is based on industry and training guidelines. But please note that you will not be able to be employed in the liquor and gaming industry until you are 18.

    Our graduates go onto roles like: barista, bartender, kitchenhand, games attendant and waitress/ waiter.

    Licensing

    This course includes units with licensing requirements that are regulated by Liquor and Gaming NSW. Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) and Responsible Conduct of Gaming (RCG) certificates are required for workers in licensed venues in NSW. Upon successful completion of the Statement of Attainment in Hospitality Start Up, you will be issued with interim certificates for these qualifications. You will need to present these certificates at Service NSW with 100 points of ID within three months to receive your RSA and RCG competency cards. It's important to note that while you can undertake these units to become job-ready, you will not be able to serve or sell alcohol until you are 18 years old. Recognition of NSW RSA and RCG competency in other jurisdictions Legislative requirements differ across borders. Check with the relevant state or territory authority to see if your NSW RSA and RCG competency is recognised.
