    The higher education Diploma of Information Technology prepares you for employment in entry-level roles in the booming Information Technology (IT) industry. You'll gain introductory knowledge in cyber security, programming, databases and internetworking. Additionally, you'll learn the critical thinking and communication skills that you will need as an IT professional.

    Learn important industry knowledge and practical workplace skills, including writing technical reports and presentations to graduate with a diverse set of professional skills. Upon completion, you will be eligible to receive 1 year advanced standing for the Bachelor of Information Technology (Cyber and Network Security) or the Bachelor of Information Technology (Data Engineering).

    Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

    • Apply theoretical and technical knowledge about information and communication technology, with some depth in internetworking

    • Solve problems and make smart decisions to plan innovative and practical solutions to a variety of ICT problems

    • Communicate your ICT knowledge and ideas effectively to a range of audiences

    • Work well with others in an ethical, responsible and professional way as an ICT professional in a range of environments

    • Graduate with a higher education diploma qualification

    • Eligibility to complete industry-based certifications like the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Certification and CompTIA Security+

    • The confidence to identify key security issues associated with networking

    • Techniques to troubleshoot common IT network issues

    • The skills and knowledge to apply software programming tools to develop correct, readable and reusable solutions from problem specifications

    • Recognition of prior learning to study the Bachelor of Information Technology (Data Engineering) or the Bachelor of Information Technology (Cyber and Network Security). The 8 subjects studied in the Diploma will be recognised and credited towards the bachelor's qualification, with a fee-deduction.

    Entry requirements

    This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol

    You must demonstrate that you have achieved one of the following:

    • A NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC) or its equivalent or

    • A Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation or its equivalent or

    • A completed certificate IV or higher vocational qualification

    Note:

    • Your certificates, transcripts and other entry requirement evidence must be certified through a Justice of the Peace or other authorising officer

    Entry recommendations

    To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

    • A strong interest in the information technology industry

    • A PC or laptop to access study materials and complete your assessments. You can access this equipment on campus, however it is highly recommended you have your own equipment available

    • Strong digital literacy and organisational skills

    • Mathematics knowledge to a Higher School Certificate (HSC) level or equivalent

    You do not require an ATAR score for entry into this course.

    If you are unable to meet the entry requirements, you may be eligible for special admission.
