Currently employed in the crane industry as evidenced by a letter of employment
Completion requirements
During your study you’ll need to provide your teacher with the following evidence:
A general construction induction card (commonly known as a white card) – you will need this before you can enter a construction site.

The ability to work at height
A commitment to safety and following workplace safety procedures
The ability to work well as part of a team
Good communication skills
Experience or interest in handling tools and equipment

Career pathways
Our graduates go onto roles like: cane industry worker, mobile plant operator, licensed crane operator, licensed rigger, licensed EWP operator and licensed forklift operator.
Licensing
As well as a valid general construction induction card, you will need a high-risk work licence if you want to carry out crane operations, dogging, rigging, elevated work platform over 11 meters or forklift work in NSW. To be eligible to obtain a high-risk licence, you must be at least 18 years old and have 100 points of ID. Before you can apply for a licence to perform high-risk work, a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) must assess your training, skills and knowledge using the relevant national 'assessment instrument' under realistic workplace conditions. During this course, you will be ready to apply for your high-risk work licence once you have completed the relevant units. You will then undertake an assessment with SafeWork NSW to obtain your licence. TAFE NSW will organise your assessment. Visit the SafeWork NSW website for more information.

UnitsUnits taught in this course
Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Construction Crane Operations qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 23 Units of competency, including 16 core and 7 speciality units.
Please note, not all specialty units are offered at every TAFE NSW location. It is highly recommended that you check with your preferred campus for information about the specialty units offered at that location.
