    Eliminate dangerous voltages when working on electrical vehicles. Safely depower electric cars and trucks by removing service plugs and doing service checks. Deactivate an EV’s battery pack and reinitialise it to ensure its systems are working again.

    Learning outcomes

    Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

    • Determine appropriate procedures for minimising risk associated with hazards, using personal protective equipment (PPE)

    • Identify and use firefighting equipment as appropriate

    • Practice using the ‘one hand’ rule

    • Depower and reinitialise battery electric vehicles (BEVs)

    • Isolate HV RESS electrical supply before commencing any service or repair work

    • Stabilise vehicle electrical systems

    Entry requirements

    This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol

    • Successful completion of the Certificate III in Automotive Refinishing Technology as evidenced by your certificate or transcript, or

    • Successful completion of the Certificate III in Automotive Body Repair Technology as evidenced by your certificate or transcript, or

    • Successful completion of the Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology as evidenced by your certificate or transcript, or

    • Successful completion of the Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology as evidenced by your certificate or transcript, or

    • Successful completion of the Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology as evidenced by your certificate or transcript, or

    • A stage 3 apprentice in an automotive trade.

    To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

    • Safety work wear — steel capped shoes, long work trousers and safety glasses
